Steam sterilizers are an important part of
medical facilities. Because steam is a critical
component in these sterilizers, it would
seem only natural that the steam used would be
continually monitored and assessed. However,
many healthcare facilities do very little to ensure appropriate
steam is being fed to their sterilizers.
When contemplating the design of a central ser vice processing
area, location — of the depar tment, areas within
the depar tment, and equipment — becomes a primar y consideration.
The first step should be defining the function of
sterile processing and what is re quired to accom plish that function. The
goal is to create an efficient infrastructure to suppor t the processing of
instruments and supplies for the operating room (OR).

Your healthcare facility invests considerable resources in making sure every patient receives a consistent, high level of care. Many quality-driven institutions are applying that same standard to sterile processing by using a biological indicator to monitor every steam sterilization load. Every Load Monitoring applies the same high standard of care for all patients to help reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections. Click here for more information.
